IRC Increases Power Ratings of Pulse-Withstanding Chip Resistors

LAS VEGAS, NV (May 12, 2009) --Providing design engineers with a higher wattage device without increasing the package size, TT electronics IRC has increased the power ratings of its PWC Series resistors. IRC now offers the pulse-withstanding chip resistors in 1/2W (1206 size, increased from 1/3W); 1W (2010 size, increased from 3/4W); and 2W (2512 size, increased from 1.5W).

"Increasing the power ratings provides our customers with an excellent alternative to multi-chip solutions, while saving both PC board space and manufacturing costs," said Gary Bleasdell, director of IRC's thick film business unit. "Along with the increased power ratings, the PWC Series resistors also feature high surge and high voltage ratings, making them extremely stable in demanding surge and pulse environments."

The PWC Series chip resistors are specified for use in power supplies, circuit protection devices, portable battery chargers, motor controls and line-powered equipment.

The PWC Series resistors feature maximum voltage ratings of 150V, 200V, 400V and 500V, with a resistance range from 1.0ohm to 10Mohm. Tolerances are to +/-0.5%, +/-1% and +/-5%, with absolute TCRs of +/-100ppm/°C at 10W and higher and +/-200ppm/°C at less than 10W. Operating temperature range is -55°C to +155°C. IRC will also produce devices outside these specifications to meet customer requirements.

Typical pricing for the PWC 1206 Series chip resistors ranges from $0.37 to $0.42 each in minimum order quantities of 5,000 pieces. Lead time is from 7 to 8 weeks.
